There is plenty of advice out there for pregnant
women. What to eat, what not to eat, what to wear and what not to, how to
think, how to prepare themselves for what is going to come, how much water to
drink, what position to sleep in, and so on. Separating from this muck of
information all the reliable sources is a chore, almost as big a chore as
finding yourself something to eat when you’re craving something else.
Similarly, while girdles for pregnant women are available, different
people have different views on whether or not they should be used at all. Most
women in the Victorian era wore girdles even when they were pregnant.
This is said to have had no consequences of the negative sort, but this is also
partly due to the fact that most women shut themselves up in a room towards the
time of the delivery, i.e. within the last few months. Experts say that wearing
girdles for pregnant women is a bad idea when it comes to highly
restrictive models, as this may impair the growth of the child. They are of the
opinion that it is counterproductive to wear girdles in the last few months,
but if worn in the initial stages, it is okay. Even then, only loose girdles
must be chosen, i.e. the ones that provide the minimum amount of constriction.
Different people have equally different views on this.
Consumers must thoroughly research these garments before choosing to buy them.
